Banana boats are a delicious yet healthy alternative to a banana split. Instead of ice cream, you can fill your bananas with yogurt for extra protein and calcium!!
Ingredients:
- One banana
- 1/2 cup of vanilla yogurt
- Chopped nuts, if desired
- A dollop of whipped cream
- One maraschino cherry
Directions:
Cut the stem off the banana.
Cut an oval just through the skin of the top of the banana.
Peal off the oval piece of skin.
Using a spoon, scoop out the insides of the banana from the shell.
Place the scooped out contents on a cutting board.
Cut the banana scoops into small pieces.
Pour half a cup of vanilla yogurt into a bowl.
Add the banana pieces to the yogurt and mix to combine.
Stir, you can add chopped nuts at this stage if desired.
Using a spoon, scoop the banana-yogurt mixture back into the shell of the banana.
Place a dollop of whipped cream and a maraschino cherry on top of the yogurt.
Enjoy!
Why can’t I just eat a Banana Split?
While banana splits are good for dessert, this is not a healthy snack option. Banana splits are full of saturated fats while Banana Boats are low fat and have many necessary nutrients for the body.
Check back soon, I’ll be posting nutrition information shortly.

I love the fun shapes and colors of the fruit and vegetable cutting boards. If you’d like one, click on the orange cutting board below.
The kids had a great time making these at a recent play date. They were a hit!
